Wanted to get something off my chest. These 'Micropayments'. Seems you can't download an app now or find any 'free' game that doesn't have a $10-50 micropayment tied to it. I think it is a ripoff and a slap in the face to traditional gamers. Gone are the days where skill and practice get you by in a game. All you need is a big enough wallet and you can buy your way successfully. That doesn't make you a good gamer. I guess I am nostalgic to when demos or free games ...

Everything has been moving pretty fast since I last wrote about the Datacenter project. Several vendors came on site, and gave us recommendations for the update. AC will be fixed and working in the new room tomorrow. Monday the wiring for 240V single phase will be completed. I've gotten quotes from several manufacturers, and I have decided on four closed racks, and one open face rack. The servers will be enclosed, and the patch panel will be open. Also, a complete re-wiring of o...

At my current job, my role is Network Administrator. Currently we have grown outside of our small computer room, and need to work on upgrading to a bigger room. We have available an older room upstairs which is a safe, just being used for storage. Let me stop here and say our building we currently occupy was a bank until the late 70s. So, yes, I am looking at moving into a safe. The walls are concrete blocks, with the floor and ceiling solid concrete. There is an AC control unit in th...

Reporters sometimes amaze me. Rushing headlong into the storm to report what it's like. "OMG honey, turn on the tv!! The wind is blowing REALLY HARD!! And LOOK!!! There's a LOT of RAIN!!!!" Every channel has the same theme. Someone standing outside the hotel with a cameraman (who I bet is wishing they were inside) during the storm and getting tossed about... Growing up here in the coastal area of the Southeast, we are hit with about two good storms a year. So Here's a tip for report...

Nowadays, it's not all that hard to find someone who is into 'gadgets' or 'tech toys'. Going out and buying the newest bluetooth enabled toothbrush, or WiFi toaster. Well, my wife is not one of those people. Now, I have tried in the past, to get her into it. I've bought her those little $9.99 Radio Shack 'Pre-PDA' devices, but she would never use them. She's of the mindset that pen and paper is better. As a computer guy who syncs his palm pilot religiously, this was breaking my h...

I've always been somewhat of a procrastinator. Putting things off until a later time. waiting until the last minute to get something done. Such was the way I viewed weight loss. I'd give it a shot from time to time, not really putting in the effort, because, somewhere in the back of my mind was the little voice "oh, there's plenty of time. You can have another burger. You can have another Snickers". That was me last week at 330 pounds. Last week I went to the doctor and he informed me t...

Over the holidays, my wife's work had a holiday party for the staff. It was what one would consider the typical 'office party'. Live DJ, Open bar, etc. Nice little restaurant theme overall. Anyway, we were in there with I believe two other office parties, from other businesses in the area. From a money making aspect, I can see putting as many people as you can into one large ballroom. As the evening progressed, I noticed a young man in full marine dress unifom. He had gotten up and gon...

My wife and I took our daughter (who just turned ten months old last week) to the pediatrician about a month ago, and he noticed something odd about her 'soft spot'. So he recommended we go to the Childrens Hospital in Chapel Hill (NC). The doctors there this past week infomed us that she has Craniosynostotis. Basically two of the bones in her skull are prematurely fused together, and if left untreated they will cause pressure on the brain and possible brain damage. My wife and I were ho...

Now, normally it takes a lot for me to get upset over something. But with recent events, I must admit I'm quickly reaching my boiling point. Why is it that the abuses of our military is being broadcast EVERYWHERE, but the video of Nick Berg is pushed back? I believe that any citizen of this country has a right to their opinion about the war, and they can freely speak out about it, but honestly...... Some of this stuff just seems to cross the line. If you can honestly sit there and ...

A whole while ago, Microsoft has pulled the popular Powertoys for Windows XP from its website for some odd reason... Now it seems that the german ZDNet has revealed the reason: The Autologon feature of Tweak UI enabled users of Windows XP Home Edition to join domains on a network, eventhough this feature is only intended to be available for Windows XP Professional clients! Our german readers may want to check out more about this neat trick here. An updated release of the Windows XP Powertoy...
